Salads are just basically a toss up of the ingredients you want. You can basically experiment on what ingredients to put in your salad. There are tips however to guide you in making a salad:
1. The Pasta – Some recommendable pasta would be fusilli, farfalle, penne, rotelle, ziti, small shells or macaroni. Make sure you only drain the pasta, once it is cooked, and not rinse it. If ever the pasta seems to stick together, don’t worry, your dressing will actually break them apart.
2. The Key Ingredients – This is actually what the salad is made of. Whether it’s raw or cooked vegetables, seafood or poultry up to mild cheeses and canned beans, it is essential that you choose the major flavorings. Hence, it is okay to allow one ingredient lead.
3. Intense Flavors – Here you can add stronger tasting add-ins. Good examples would include a crumbled Feta cheese, crumbled Goat cheese or drained capers. You can also include shaved Parmesan, roasted peppers or roasted peppers that are cut in strips.
4. The Onions and Herbs – It doesn’t really matter what type of salad you are planning; the tree sliced large green onions are still entirely interchangeable. This is more common in Asian-influenced salads. However, if you seem uncertain of the herb you can use, it is always safe to make use of fresh parsley (chopped).
5. The Dressing – The trick for the dressing is to make it look emulsified and thick. This can be achieved with lemon juice or vinegar.
When making salads Asian style, typically stir-fried ingredients are only being used. This includes bell peppers and celery.
